This is 12 Months Project Implemented by Womankind Kenya as an anchor grantee in Partnership with Girl Generation, in Garissa County. The project is being implemented by Five other Small and Medium grantees who includes (NADA, Girl Kind, PEDO, WOHED, Waberi Disable Women and Northern Resilience Development Organization (NRDO) .

 

The Objective of the project is to eradicate the Female Genital Mutilation/Cut Practice in Garissa County

 

Since the start of Positive outcomes has been achieved, as an anchor grantee, Womankind Kenya has successfully conducted capacity assessments for small and medium grantees and is offering continuous organisational support. Ensuring enhancement of efforts towards zero tolerance to FGM/C practices, the medium and small grantees have been sensitized on reporting, and case management will enhance coordinated prevention and response on FGM/C Practices in Garissa township.

 

The project has also appreciated the role of council of elders, religious and traditional clan leaders, male champions in eradication of FGM/C. Facilitating change in behaviour, perceptions attitudes to accelerate the abandonment of FGM/C Practice. Engagement forums targeting these groups have been conducted. These forums have led to Champions who are openly advocating against the FGM/C practice.

 

The project is also championing, Community awareness and advocacy campaigns on elimination of FGM/C (Mark Relevant calendar Day- 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence; the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women; International Day of the African Child Celebration; International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation) will and dissemination of abandonment of FGM/C practice messages will increase information sharing both at the grassroot and county level thus reduction in FGM/C Practice.

Womankind Kenya is also working in collaboration with health care  workers to facilitate Community outreaches on psychosocial support and  improved access service
