Our History

Womankind Kenya (WOKIKE) was established in 1989 as a women’s welfare group and formally registered as a non-governmental organization under the NGO Coordination Act of 1990 in September 1995. Founded by pastoralist women advocating for gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls, WOKIKE has become a trusted partner in advancing the rights and well-being of marginalized women and children across Kenya.

The organization drives impact through five strategic focus areas: Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI), Democracy and Just Governance, Peacebuilding and Conflict Resolution, Child Protection, Inclusion and Education, and Climate Change Resilience, Livelihood, and Health. WOKIKE leverages strong community partnerships and stakeholder collaborations to create sustainable solutions that promote dignity, equality, and opportunity for all.

By partnering with WOKIKE, stakeholders and donors contribute to transformative programs that empower communities, foster resilience, and drive meaningful change for the most vulnerable populations.
