Womankind Kenya has set new benchmarks in advancing gender equality, strengthening community resilience, and addressing pressing humanitarian challenges in 2024. With a focus on empowering women, youth, and marginalized groups in arid and semi-arid regions, the organization has made strides in sustainable community development.

  1. Pioneering Climate Action with Gender Inclusion

In 2024, Womankind Kenya strengthened Climate action advocacy efforts by Building the grassroots climate movement, Developing and spreading African Climate justice narratives as well as pushing for climate-just policies. took a front seat in climate change resilience efforts. The organization’s active participation in a three-day REDD+ and climate change guardrail training workshop in Nanyuki emphasized the importance of gender equality and social inclusion in climate policies. Womankind Kenya advocated for protecting indigenous peoples and local communities, ensuring their voices are integral to sustainable climate action.

  1. Empowering Communities Through Crisis Response

To address the vulnerabilities of disaster-affected communities, Womankind Kenya partnered with the ASAL Humanitarian Network (AHN) and secured funding from the Center for Disaster Philanthropy (CDP) for the Supporting Coordinated Community-Led Crisis Response (SCLR) project. Through microgrants issued to 40 self-help groups, communities designed and implemented localized crisis interventions, strengthening resilience against future challenges.

  1. Awarded for Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Prevention

During Mashujaa Day 2024, Womankind Kenya’s exceptional work in preventing Gender-Based Violence (GBV) was recognized by Garissa County Governor H.E. Nathif Jama. This accolade reflects the organization’s unwavering commitment to protecting women and girls’ rights and fostering a safer community.

  1. Championing Gender-Responsive Public Services (GRPS)

Womankind Kenya enhanced public participation by organizing capacity-building sessions for youth in Garissa. Participants learned to advocate for Gender-Responsive Public Services (GRPS) during county planning processes. This initiative ensures women and marginalized groups receive equitable access to essential services, particularly in emergencies.

  1. Promoting Accountability Through CHS Training

In collaboration with ActionAid Kenya, the organization trained Garissa youths on the Core Humanitarian Standard on Quality and Accountability (CHS). These sessions emphasized delivering humanitarian aid with accountability, dignity, and adherence to the rights of affected communities.

 

  1. Hygiene promotion

In 2024, Womankind Kenya strengthened efforts in promoting hygiene promotion, this included Distribution of hygiene kits, door-to-door community awareness, as well as supporting water committee meetings to enhance water management skills and ensure equal representation. Additionally, Womankind Kenya marked Global Handwashing Day 2024 at Saka Primary School in Garissa County. Through demonstrations led by students and community members, the event highlighted the importance of regular handwashing in disease prevention. This initiative emphasized behavior change as a key driver for better health outcomes.

  1. Strengthening Partnerships for Localization

To advance its localization agenda, Womankind Kenya hosted Save the Children for a monitoring visit. The collaboration focused on enhancing the organization’s capacity to form safer partnerships and deliver community-driven solutions. This partnership underscores the importance of fostering trust and sustainability in humanitarian efforts.

  1. Reflecting on Progress Through PRRP

Womankind Kenya, in collaboration with ActionAid Kenya, facilitated a Participatory Review and Reflection Process (PRRP) meeting in Garissa Township. This forum allowed young people and partners to evaluate achievements, address challenges, and recommend strategies for future projects. Such reflective practices are critical for continuous improvement and impactful outcomes.
